Scanner Brands and Medieval Cosplay

So, I think with my next paycheck I am going to have to buy a new scanner. Whiiiich really sucks, but what can you do?

What brands do you folks suggest? I want one that works well and picks up colours nicely. I will be avoiding Canon, as that's the brand that's crapping out on me right now.

The other thing is that I've recently watched all of Robin of Sherwood and am now pumped for Keycon, Winnipeg's local Fantasy/Sci-fi convention. (I'll be selling there, as well.)
I want to dress up for it.
But I lack the time or know-how to create medieval clothes. Now, I've come across some nice shops on ebay, but is there anywhere you folks would suggest to get medieval costumes? Nice ones, I mean. (Both dresses and armour suit me fine. Especially Norman armour. mmmmmm. :D )
